Distinction between Limit Hold’em and No Limit Hold’em Poker

Of all, Texas Holdem is one of the most common and popular poker games. There are two prime subclasses of Texas Holdem, namely “Limit” and “No Limit”. However, most of the online poker rooms provide “Limit” Texas Holdem. This is because of the higher stakes and risks involved in “No limit” variation of Texas Holdem. Hence players with more money, who are willing to take risks, can only go for “No limit”. These two variations have almost similar rules. Nevertheless, it is vital to throw light on the distinction between these two games.

First of all, in “Limit” the system of placing bets is well structured, due to the fact that the bets have to be placed at the requisite level, which cannot be altered by the players. For instance, in a game of “3-6 Limit” Texas Holdem, for the first 2 rounds, the player can bet in 3 dollar increments and in the remaining 2 rounds the player can bet in 6 dollar increments. It can be reviewed that in this game there are four rounds. Firstly, sharing of cards among the players, after which the 3-card community flop is shown. Thirdly the ‘turn’ card, which is the fourth card, is kept face-up and then lastly the fifth card or the ‘river’ card is placed face-up. According to the “Limit”, the player can bet once at the fixed level and then make up to 3 raises. It is worthy to mention that all the pokers rooms have introduced different kinds of “Limit” card rooms based on the stakes, which range from “0.01-0.02” to “200-400”.

In the “No limit” variation, the player himself starts the game at a minimum amount. After placing initial amount in the pot, the player is left to play with any amount over that. Depending on the maximum ‘in’ chips, players are free to bet with to any desired amount of money. A condition called ‘All in’ occurs, when the player bets with entire amount of money that he has. It is enough if the player just declares that he wants to put ‘all in’, without any need to actually and physically place all his remaining chips into the pot. Hence, when he declares ‘all in’, it is concluded that he is going to bet with all the chips that are left over with him. The “World Series of Poker tournament” is based on the No Limit” version of Texas Holdem!

The above details may help in learning the distinction between “Limit” Holdem and “No Limit” Holdem Poker.
